Memorial Day is this weekend. As we honor the service men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our country, we also usher in the official summer season. Many people will be gathering with their families for food, fun and fellowship. What better way to kick off the season than with a classic BBQ?
Here is a really simple recipe for a dry rub that is perfect both for chicken and ribs. It’s great to make your own spice blends because you will know what’s in them–and more importantly–what’s NOT. Most pre-packaged spice blends are FULL of MSG and that stuff is so bad for you! Some people have really bad reactions to it, including my son. We try to avoid it if at all possible.
I really love dry rubs and I use them often, because they are concentrated flavor!
So for this recipe, I bought a package of 7 chicken drumsticks for $4.15 at Mac’s Fresh Market across from Drew Elementary School. They got a quick coating of this seasoning blend, I let them marinate for around a half hour, and then my husband grilled them.
Not only was this an extremely cost effective meal, it was also FULL of amazing FLAVOR! So yummy!
You just can’t beat that!
I hope y’all give this recipe a try and that you enjoy it!
Let us know how it goes in the comments!
God bless! ~Shanna
